SCOPE AND CONTENT top

The records of the B'nai B'rith, District # 2 contain correspondence, financial records, membership records, reports, proceedings, committee records, minutes, constitutions, by-laws, and nearprint. The collection consists of three series:

  • A. GENERAL FILES
  • B. CONVENTIONS AND NEARPRINT
  • C. EXTRA COPY FILES
  • SERIES A. GENERAL FILES (1904-1976), which is the largest series, contains information on all of-the activities of District Lodge # 2. The Series reflects the district's interaction with individual lodges within its district as well as with the district's representative lodge, the Supreme Lodge, based in Washington, D.C. The Series shows the day-to-day activities of the Lodge (through the financial and membership records) while also showing the overall activities and policies of the District (through correspondence, committee minutes and information on the services rendered by the district lodge).

The first forty-five boxes of Series A contain the files for the years 1904 through 1958. There is no apparant arrangement of the material within these files. Thereafter the files are arranged chronologically by fiscal years (i.e. 1957-1958, 1958-1959, etc.) and alphabetically within each year.

SERIES B. CONVENTIONS AND NEARPRINT (1911-1978) consists of the printed material produced by the District (brochures describing the District, manuals on membership recruitment, etc.), as well as correspondence, nearprint and proceedings about national and district conventions. The series is arranged chronologically.

SERIES C. EXTRA COPY FILES (1951-1957) contains copies of the material mimeographed by B'nai B'rith, District # 2. Items in this series include form letters, memoranda, lists of lodges and notices of meetings. The file is arranged chronologically.
