Biographical Sketch

Born June 18, 1868 in Westwood, Ohio, Setty Swarts graduated from Hughes High School in Cincinnati in 1886, and in 1893, married Simon Kuhn, a Cincinnati banker. They had four children, three girls and a boy. Throughout her long life, Mrs. Kuhn was a community leader with many civic and philanthropic involvements including the Foreign Policy Association, the Better Housing League, the University School, and the Cincinnati Chamber Music Society. She was also a strong advocate for disarmament and world peace. She died on April 21, 1952.

Correspondence, diaries, testimonials, photographs, and newsclippings relating to Mrs. Kuhn's family and her active involvement in civic affairs in the Cincinnati area. Important correspondents include Albert Einstein, Jane Addams, Nelson Glueck, Harold Laski, and Rudolf Serkin.

The Setty Swarts Kuhn Papers are open to all users. The original manuscript collection is available in the Barrows-Loebelson Reading Room of the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives.

Property and Literary Rights

Various donors, by the act of donating the Setty Swarts Kuhn Papers to the American Jewish Archives, assigned all property rights to the American Jewish Archives. Literary rights are retained by Setty Swarts Kuhn and her heirs. Literary rights may also be retained by specific creators of materials.
