Biographical SketchBernard Semel was born in Galicia in 1878. A Zionist, Semel was active in the Zionist Organization of America and many other Jewish organizations. In 1914 he co-founded (with Judah L. Magnes) the Yiddish newspaper, Der Tog. Semel's main interest was in Jewish education. He was one of the organizers of the Jewish Education Association as well as a board member and secretary of the Jewish Education Committee. Bernard Semel died in 1959. Scope and Content NoteCollection consisting of correspondence, speeches, newsclippings, and miscellaneous items pertaining to Semel's work in Jewish education, his interest in Palestine, and other matters.
