Biographical Sketch

Heinrich Zirndorf (1829-1893), a poet and rabbinical scholar, was born in Furth, Bavaria and later emigrated to Cincinnati. He was a rabbi at Temple Beth-El in Detroit, Michigan and later at Ahabath Achim in Cincinnati, Ohio. Zirndorf was also a history professor at Hebrew Union College and an editor of Die Deborah.


Scope and Content Note

Collection contains correspondence, notebooks, writings, and scrapbooks. Much of the correspondence relates to Hebrew Union College as well as articles from the American Israelite concerning Russian refugees.

Terms of Access and Use

The Heinrich Zirndorf Papers are open to all users. The original manuscript collection is available in the Barrows-Loebelson Reading Room of the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives.

Property and Literary Rights

Miriam E. Kushner, by the act of donating the Heinrich Zirndorf Papers to the American Jewish Archives, assigned all property rights to the American Jewish Archives. Literary rights are retained by Heinrich Zirndorf and his heirs. Literary rights may also be retained by specific creators of materials.
