Originals of letters from President Harding, Grace Coolidge,Thomas Edison, Mina Edison, Douglas Fairbanks, Charles Lindbergh, Eleanor Roosevelt, Wm. Howard Taft, and H.G. Wells, along with a 1923 dollar bill, have been placed in Rare Documents: Ochs.

Biographical Sketch

Adolph S. Ochs (1858-1935) was born in Cincinnati. In addition to being a newspaper publisher with the Chattanooga Times and the New York Times, he was also involved with Hebrew Union College and the Union of American Hebrew Congregations.

Collection contains correspondence with various members of the boards of Hebrew Union College, the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, Temple Emanu-El in New York, as well as with other prominient politicians, such as Warren G. Harding. Also includes speeches, photographs, and newspaper clippings. The Adolph Simon Ochs Papers are open to all users. The original manuscript collection is available in the Barrows-Loebelson Reading Room of the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives.

Robert P. Goldman, by the act of donating the Adolph Simon Ochs Papers to the American Jewish Archives, assigned all property rights to the American Jewish Archives. Literary rights are retained by Adolph Simon Ochs and his heirs. Literary rights may also be retained by specific creators of materials.
