Institutional Sketch

Founded in 1749, K.K. Beth Elohim is considered the fourth oldest Jewish congregation in the United States. In 1841, it became the first Reform congregation in the US and was one of the founding synagogues of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (1873).

Records consist of constitution and by-laws (1820-1847), minutebooks (1838-1928), fragment of minutes (1775), charter petition (1791), court cases and indentures (1764-1775), bicentennial materials (1950), miscellaneous correspondence and records (1855-1977), cash ledgers (1799-1865), receipt books (1866-1870), and offering books (1799-1823).
