Institutional SketchTouro Synagogue is the sixth oldest synagogue in the U.S., tracing its roots back to 1828. Shanarai-Chasset (Congregation Gates of Mercy) and Nefutzoth Yehudah (Congregation Dispersed of Judah) merged in 1881 and named themselves after the merchant-philanthropist Judah Touro. It later joined the Reform movement in 1891. Scope and Content NoteMinutes, treasurer's accounts, records of births, marriages and deaths, ketubahs, and pew stubs; together with minute books (1895-1913) of the Women's League.
