Project Sketch

This project originated in the early 1990s when faculty members at the Canadian Jewish Studies Department of Concordia University of Montreal, Quebec, Canada set out to collect unpublished memoirs of Holocaust survivors living in Canada. The memoirs focus on the war period (1939-1945) but contain information about the survivor's post-war experience. Some memoirs were written in Yiddish but were later translated into English. With support from a grant from the Concordia University in Canadian Jewish Studies, limited numbers of published volumes were distributed to Canadian university libraries and Holocaust centers in other countries. These memoirs have also been distributed on the Internet <http://migs.concordia.ca/survivor.html>

Scope and Content Note

This material consists of a single series of bound and numbered memoirs. Volume 9, Memoirs from Hungary, and Volume 15, Witnesses Speak, An Anthology, contain an anthology of memoirs.
