Biographical Sketch

Born in 1938 in New York, New York, David B. Weisberg received his A.B. from Columbia College and his Bachelor’s of Hebrew Letters from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1960, and his doctorate from Yale University in 1965. After serving two years at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago, he was invited to join the faculty at Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati in 1967, and was ordained as a rabbi in 1977. President of the Greater Cincinnati Board of Rabbis from 2003–2005 and an accomplished scholar, he has taught at Mikhlellet Achavah and Bar Han University in Israel, as well as in Russia, Germany, and China. He currently holds the title of Professor of Bible and Semitic Languages at HUC-JIR, Cincinnati, and specializes in Ancient Near Eastern Studies, specifically Assyriology and Bible. He has written prolifically in these areas and achieved renown for his expertise.

Weisberg and his wife Ophra have four children.

This collection consists of meeting minutes and correspondence for the Greater Cincinnati Board of Rabbis from 1994–2003, as well as one folder of miscellaneous personal correspondence.

This collection is open to all users. The original manuscript collection is available in the Barrows-Loebelson Reading Room of the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives.
