Institutional SketchBig Brothers/Big Sisters Association of Cincinnati, founded in 1910, is a charter member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America. Its mission is to “provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.” The organization traces its origins to 1903 when Irvin F. Westheimer, a Cincinnati businessman, befriended a young fatherless boy and decided to start a group of mentors for children in need. The agency focuses on mentoring and educating youth through scholarly and extracurricular activities. Big Brothers and Big Sisters merged in 1977 and as of 2011, the program continues as the Jewish Big Brothers/Big Sisters under the Jewish Family Service agency.
